All this talk (and great photos!) about the wonderful gatherings of late has
me envious for one out west. Are there enough of us to put one together? Maybe
a No. Cal one and another for So. Cal (states out
here on the left coast are bigger than those heavy-duty letterboxing states.
. .you all know who you are!) I'd be willing to do the lion's share of the
put-it-together process if there's any interest. I'm thinking Sacramento or San
Francisco or something like that. I'd like to hear from all who are in the area
and would be interested.

Or, how about a nice big one, in CENTRAL California... say, like in
the lovely Central Coast area??

The Hiker, Lizardbutt, Bookworm and JetlagDad are interested in
meeting others at a No. Cal gathering. We live in the S.F. Bay area.

This is a big state, and separate Southern and Northern California
gatherings make a lot of sense, but I like Jugglermouse's idea. The
Central Coast is one of the biggest letterboxing areas in
California. I vote for the city of San Luis Obispo for the gathering
(by coincidence, Juggler's town). There are 20 letterboxes planted
in the city, and another 50 of them in nearby towns. San Luis Obispo
is also located almost exactly halfway between Los Angeles (my town)
and San Francisco, so I think it makes the perfect choice.

Okay, like Ms. Mouse, I am prejudiced. The San Luis Obispo area has a
large concentration of boxes with more going in everyday. We have
high climbing ones; we have drive-by ones. We have stop in the shop
and ask the proprietor ones; we have do not let anyone in the shop
see you ones.
Adding to that, we have boxes with stamps carved by Amanda from
Seattle and JugglerMouse (who should become as famous as any boxer
out there for her wonderful work.)
Our climate is temperate all year long. The ocean is beautiful. The
accomedations reasonable.
And we are midway between SF (240 mi south) and LA (190 north) on
highway 101.
Do please consider this as a place to visit and maybe even have an
event here.

I'm in Sacramento, so No cal gets my vote. Plus I only have one day a
week off work, so I wouldn't be looking to stay, maybe just to say hi.

Well Gwen & I vote for Kernville. Actually we are more concerned about when not where. We are heading up to Montana on 6/20 and won't be back til after 8/5. If you can plan for September, weather in Kernville will still be hot then (too hot to hike comfortably) so we would be open to anywhere cool. Don

We're based in the East Bay and would love a gathering - San Francisco is
closer but Sacramento isn't too far.

So nice to see so many replies from the Bay Area! I'm in the East
Bay too so San Francisco area would be nice. But I don't mind going
to Sacramento.
As far as when...well July would be difficult for me. Too much work
going on then. August and September I can be a lot more flexible.
Looking forward to meeting you all some day.

I like the idea of a California meeting. I agree that SLO seems to be the hotbed of Southern California. I might be able to convince my wife to go there if I don't tell her I'm going there for letterboxes. ; )
